India has a rich cultural heritage. India's people are following many age-old traditions. Jewellery holds a significant role in these rituals. Wearing a toe ring during one’s wedding is a typical practice in South India, mainly Tamil Nadu.

A toe ring is basically a finger ring that is worn on the index finger equivalent of the foot. Toe rings are usually made of silver considering its scientific and medicinal value. It has become a fashion statement and is hence available in Gold and Diamond as well, in various designs.

Toe rings are named differently in different parts of India. Commonly known as Metti (Tamil), it is Bicchiya in Hindi, Minchi in Malayalam, Mettalu in Telugu, Kaulungura in Kananda and Jadavi in Marathi.

In Hindu Mythology, ornaments used in life events embody a decorative value and act as reminders of moral values. It is written in ancient scriptures that women must wear Bindi, necklaces, bracelets, earrings, bangles, toe ring, kohl, anklets, sandalwood at the time of their wedding paste, henna etc.

The epic story of Ramayana, mentions an incident where Ravan captivates Sita, and she throws away her toe ring so that Raman could easily find her. Toe rings have thus been an ornament since Ancient times.

Wearing a toe ring has social as well as medicinal implications along with ancient significance.
