Class Ring

Class Ring

A class ring is an academic memento ring worn by American students or alumni to commemorate their high school, college or university graduation. For most of them, this ring will remain with them as a reminder of the best days of their life.

Class rings are also known as graduation, graduation, senior, or grad rings depending on the occasion.

When we look at the history of class rings, we find early traces of them in Ancient Egyptian and Sumerian civilizations. They wore these rings to show their association or alliance with a particular cult or group. In modern history, this tradition of wearing class rings originated at the United States Military Academy, Westpoint when the class of 1835 of the Office Training Program wore these rings for the first time. A classic class ring design consists of gems or stones fixed at the centre and the name of the institution or class on both sides, giving it a bulky look.

We can fully customize these rings. You can choose what kind of material, gem, or design to include on the ring. This ring was once a great style icon which made most students buy them on campus.

Class rings are typically made using gold, silver and nickel. Around 70% of them are made from 10k gold. The stone fixed on it need not be of high value, and in most of the cases, it is just a cheaper one.

The way in which the class ring is worn is just as important as its significance. Usually, when students receive their ring, they wear it on their ring finger on their right hand facing towards their face. And during their graduation ceremony, they turn their rings to the outward direction symbolizing that they have completed their graduation. The direction to which the ring is turned- clockwise or anti-clockwise depends on the tradition followed by that particular university, college or high school.

There are also some ring ceremonies associated with this tradition. In almost all schools, this is in the form of formal ceremonies which are conducted in the fall.

Here, all the students -junior or senior, receive their rings all at once. After the end of graduation sermons, all the students stand together and open their class ring box and start wearing them. In some schools, there will be ring dances too. These are informal celebrations that are conducted by graduates to celebrate the beginning of their adult life.

Almost all old or prestigious alumni choose to wear their class rings lifelong.
