A ring with a central gemstone, surrounded by a collection of Diamonds in a round overlay, is called a halo ring. A typical halo ring is made in White Gold or Platinum, with a central colourless Diamond, surrounded by a colourless stones.
Halo rings instigated first in Europe during the Georgian era, in which all the Diamond stones were almost of the same size, with only the central one being a bit bigger than the others. During the Victorian period, the central stone was made of Rubies and Sapphires, bordered by rows of Diamonds, imparting a floral look. During the subsequent Art Deco period, the halo in the present classic setting came into existence. It is most preferred for engagement functions, succeeding the Classic Solitaire Ring.
The number of Diamonds in a tightly packed halo ring and loosely packed halo ring are 20 and 17 respectively. The halo setting looks most elegant, with a high carat Diamond, in the centre.
The halo of the ring is subjected to experimentation by craftsmen incorporating creative twists, which paved the way for the angular halo. In addition to this, there are also designs with double, triple or multiple halos, around the central stone, providing an impression of extravagance.
A contemporary look is imparted to the halo design by asymmetric halos. In a floating halo, the central Diamond is separated and is located above the row of Diamonds. In a cluster design, the single central stone is replaced with a cluster of small Diamonds.
The different designs of halo rings are given below. The Waverly Diamond 18 K White Gold Ring, features beautifully scalloped pave Diamonds, encircling the central gem, creating the sparkling halo setting.
