According to the Indian Culture, ceremonies are uniform across most religions and ethnicities. Every aspect of a celebration has a meaning to it.
The ring ceremony during weddings is one such ceremony that marks the formal announcement of the wedding concord, while in others it marks the celebration when the official date of the marriage is determined. It is also called as the sagai ceremony or the ring ceremony.
The ring ceremony marks the start of a new journey for the couple who are about to get married. It is universally believed that the origin of wedding rings is from ancient Egyptian religion. Egypt viewed the circle as a symbol of eternity, and the ring served to signify the never-ending love between the couple. Therefore, comes the importance of the ring ceremony and that is why it is celebrated.
The ring ceremony is not necessary for all communities across the country, but it always involves the ritual being the official announcement of the wedding. In a ring ceremony basically, engagement rings are exchanged between the bride and the groom.
Usually, a Sagaai function involves both the families exchanging gifts like jewellery, wedding clothes, gifts for close family etc.. There are many things considered when fixing the date of the ring ceremony; the engagement costume, decor, venue, catering and themes for the function. The grand function may be organised in an auditorium, house, open courtyard or a pool venue and decorated using flowers, rangoli and drapes for an aesthetic touch.
Food has always been an essential part of all Indian ceremonial functions. There are various kinds of starters, main courses, cocktails and other food items served at weddings and related functions. It always varies according to states and ethnicities upon their religion. Usually, the woman wears sarees, half sarees, gowns and lehengas. Men wear western outfits, traditional sherwanis and other forms of ethnic wear.
