Are fancy coloured diamonds that have characteristics similar to colourless diamonds. But most blue diamonds are much rarer than colourless diamonds, and their elegant blue colour makes them even more appealing.
The price of a blue diamond ring depends on the type of diamond used, the amount of blue in it and also the type of material it is embedded in. There are usually four types available - natural, enhanced, artificial or synthetic blue gemstones.
Natural blue diamonds are created in nature deep under the Earth's surface throughout thousands of years.
Enhanced ones are real diamonds that are permanently treated using heating or radiation techniques. Even though they are authentic diamonds, artificially treated blue coloured diamonds are not considered as real blue diamonds. Also, if you compare them with natural blue diamonds, you can find that both of them have different tones of colour. Synthetic blue diamonds have the same properties of real ones but are made artificially in laboratories. The popular blue gemstones stones like blue sapphire and blue topaz are the best options if you are looking for comparatively low-cost blue diamonds.
When you look at the colour, the higher the intensity and more profound the colour- the higher the value.
So what gives a natural blue diamond it's colour?
It is the presence of Boron, along with Nitrogen that gives it the perfect blue colour. The entire process of cutting and polishing can also affect its colour tone. They are available in an endless variety of shades like light blue, fancy blue, intense blue, greyish blue and greenish-blue.
Similar to other rings, other metals like platinum, yellow gold, white gold or a combination of these materials are often used in the making of this ring.
Blue diamond rings are available in a variety of designs. You can go for a ring with just a single large blue diamond in the centre like classic solitaire or a prong setting called the "halo" where white diamonds in a pave setting fashion are affixed around the centre blue one.
These rings are also available in top designs like the pave design where diamonds are tightly packed appearing as if there is no hiding, vintage designs like art deco inspired or Edwardian inspired ones, or even modern designs like the shape band or the new age cluster.
