Side Earrings

Earrings are one of the most favoured pieces of jewellery because they can completely change the look of a face. Whether they are just studs or danglers, earrings serve to brighten the face. There are different types of earrings that men and women can wear today: studs, drop earrings, danglers, side earrings, hoop earrings, etc.

Side earrings also called cuff clip earrings, or ear cuffs, side earrings are in vogue now. While it used to be a big part of women's jewellery in the olden times, they have come back in fashion today.

While some men and women wear it on only one ear, others choose to wear side earrings in both ears.

Side Earrings History
Side earrings were extensively used in ancient times. Around the year 2000 BC, they were referred to as Kaffas. These were made of different materials and also represented the social status of the wearer.

Ear cuffs made their appearance in ancient India and Thailand around the 12th century and Europe in the 18th century.

In modern times, side earrings became famous during the 1950s, and the French Jeweler Marcel Boucher patented his ear jewel creation that was clipped or pinned to the lobe.

Side Earrings How Are They Worn
Side earrings are designed to be wrapped around the ear ridge with a clasp behind. They are essentially clip-on earrings. These can be worn by individuals whether their ears are pierced or not.

Side Earrings are long ornamental, and the designs are either descending (top to bottom) or ascending (bottom to top). Ear crawlers and climbers belong to this variety. Constellation earrings are yet another type of these earrings. These follow the curve of the ear when worn and lend a look of elegance. Side earrings look better on longer faces.

Side earrings with danglers are a trendy style that most youngsters are fond of. If you are creative, you can wear more than one ear cuff at a time. Some wear ear cuffs with a chain hanging from the sides of the lobes.

Most ear cuffs are made of 18-Carat gold and studded with precious and semi-precious stones in some cases. In others, they are only of gold, platinum, silver or other metal alloys. Side earrings are worn to highlight an individual’s best features and build up the persona.
