Oxidised Earrings
Oxidation happens when a metal comes in contact with oxygen to form an oxide, and there is a resultant colour change. That is the natural process. However, Oxidised Silver jewellery is made using Sulpur. Sterling Silver jewellery is exposed to air containing sulphur or treated with a chemical solution to create a black coat of Silver Sulphide which renders a vintage look.
Mostly silver is used for oxidised jewellery, but Copper, Zinc and Nickel are also a part of the alloy. Silver turns dark grey or black; however, other colours such as pink, green, white or yellow can also be achieved.
