Kashmir is known for its beautiful scenery and snow-laced mountains. It has a rich heritage and culture, which makes one stand in awe. One of the main attractions of their culture is their jewellery. They wear heavy jewellery which could be made of gold or silver. They use old techniques to make their jewellery which makes it hard to copy. One of the main components of their jewellery is earrings. Kashmiri earrings are gorgeous and heavy.

There are many types of Kashmiri Earrings. The type of earrings women wear is different according to their age and marital status. Since jewellery forms a significant part of their daily attire, the significance of the jewellery they wear is very important. Now let’s see the different types of Kashmiri earrings:

There are many types of clip-on earrings, and they are:

  • Bala: It is studded with turquoise gemstones attached to a fringe of hanging gold leaves and balls.

  • Alcahor or Alka-hor: It is a style of earrings, which rests over either ear and is connected by a chain running over the head.

  • Deji-hoor or Deji-hor: These kinds of earrings symbolize the marital status of the women and therefore, it is only worn by the married women in Kashmir. This type consists of a gold chain or a silk thread that passes through the holes pierced at the ear lobes' top end.

  • Atta Hor: Married Kashmiri Pandit women only wear these kinds of earrings. This type also hangs over the ears and is connected by a gold chain running over the head.

  • Kanadoor: This type is either made with gold or silver and is studded with red, green stones and pearls. Young girls mainly wear this kind.

  • Kana-vaji: This type also symbolizes marital status. Therefore, it is only worn by married women. It is studded with pearls and is worn daily.

  • Jumaka: Jumakas are present in every kind of traditional jewellery. The same goes for Kashmiri earrings. It is a bell-shaped earring that could be studded with stones or pearls or left plain

  • Talraj: It is also a kind of earring that married women wear, which symbolizes their wedlock.

Kashmiri earrings' speciality is that it is studded with precious or semi-precious stones of different colours to reproduce the beautiful colours of flowers and leaves. This kind of jewellery is very beautiful and makes whoever it wears lovelier to look at.
