Cherish your childhood this Children’s Day!
Let’s take a ride along memory lane, shall we? And when you get to your favourite one, just pause and linger. Do you recollect it vaguely as a dream, or is it vividly etched in your memory like it was yesterday? What is it? A birthday that you got your favourite toy? A vacation with your family filled with giggles and laughs? Evenings running around with your childhood buddies? Or flickering moments of eating a popsicle on the roadside, making a paperboat on a rainy day or just playing marbles with your grandma? These are the things every childhood is fondly remembered by, and this is the time to celebrate it.
Children’s Day is the celebration of happiness, innocence, and infinite curiosity in every child. The world of children is filled with boundless creativity, giggles, and small moments that grow into significant childhood memories. No matter how old we get, there is an inner child within us that refuses to grow up, keeping a part of childhood alive within us. A part that still loves surprises, still gets excited over little things, and still believes that magic exists in everyday moments.
Children are celebrated with love and care in our culture, and love takes many forms. Gifting gold jewellery to kids is one such tradition, and gold is considered auspicious and protective for them. There is something so beautiful about gifting diamond jewellery to kids. It is a way of giving your blessings to them that says, ‘You are precious, you are valuable.
When a baby is born, the grandmother ties a nazar bracelet around the baby’s wrist (to ward off negative energies), and the family gives the baby tiny gold bangles or kadas that sit gently on the baby’s wrist, shining softly against the baby’s delicate skin. In the naming ceremony or other religious rituals, it is this little bangle, or a gold chain, that becomes the first piece of jewellery the baby ever wears. This is also a piece of jewellery that is treasured as we grow older and look at it fondly.
Parents often choose a delicate chain that rests lightly on the child’s neck, adorned with a pendant shaped like a fruit, a flower, or a superhero emblem, for a family function, as it adds a touch of elegance to their innocence. In family photographs, it is this jewellery that often becomes a detail you can look back on with fondness, saying: “Remember when she wore this chain for her first birthday?” or “That kada was his first gift from his grandparents!”
For little girls, children’s gold earrings or children’s stud earrings are often chosen for their ear-piercing ceremonies. The smallest studs, either in sparkling diamonds or gold, light up their faces. Isn’t it charming to see a wide-eyed toddler with a pair of tiny earrings?
As the children start growing, their jewellery becomes expressive. They will pick up chains, bracelets or bangles with a favourite motif, such as a cartoon character, a cute teddy bear, or an adorable dolphin, and it will become the child’s pride. When children run around playing with their cousins or friends, they show off their new bracelet, and you can see their eyes shining with happiness. They love wearing something that reflects their little world, so let them choose the jewellery they wish to wear.
Each piece of jewellery captures a memory, so let’s create memories with them. When we give gold jewellery to children, we are not only giving them good luck, wealth, and blessings wrapped in gold, but also fond memories to remember their childhood by and relive it.
This Children’s Day, let’s not only celebrate our kids but also cherish the child within ourselves and treat ourselves to something in gold or diamond. After all, don’t we still smile at sweet stories, hold on to dreams, and still believe that every day carries a little bit of magic? Childhood is not just a phase. It’s a feeling, a feeling worth celebrating, today and always. Happy Children’s Day!
