Weddings at Home: Spends and Saves

Weddings At Home : Spends And Saves

Many of us might remember flipping through our grandparents’ wedding photo albums wondering how they managed to conduct weddings at their homes. The year 2020 took us on a Back to Basics course and made history repeat itself in this case. While it’s a novel experience for the millennial, it remains nostalgic for all our previous generations.

Weddings conducted at home bring a rustic and homely feeling along with it. Though many crises like accommodating all the guests and preparing and serving food to all of them in the confined space may seem daunting, many couples and their families have made it possible to conduct a modern day trendy wedding without giving up on the rich traditions of the Indian soil in the comforting space of their homes.

It becomes a given that the number of guests invited for a wedding during the pandemic be limited to 100. This makes the pocket heavy in terms of food catering, seating accommodation and return gifts. One of the major expenditures in a wedding is the wedding hall. Weddings at home eliminate this cost.

On the other hand, entertaining a hundred people in the cosy space of our home can be stressful. Tents have to be erected around the house to set up a stage for the couple and a viewing area for the guests. A makeshift kitchen should also be made to cook for all the guests and the same goes for the dining area as well. These remain as few of the important expenditures when it comes to weddings at home. Though the stages cannot be decorated as in a wedding hall, the decorations can be downsized in an artistic way matching the rustic and cosy vibe of a home.

Photography is one aspect that remains unchanged. Capturing one of the most iconic moments in the couple’s and their families’ lives can be done creatively in both a grand wedding as well as a simple at-home wedding. Another aspect that has become popular these days is streaming the wedding ceremony live on social media platforms so that the friends and relatives who couldn’t attend the wedding in person get to bless the couple online.

Dire situations make us take dire actions. Rediscovering Weddings at home is one such dire action taken courtesy the corona pandemic.
