Who doesn't enjoy the glitter of gold?
If your gold jewellery looks a bit shady, careful cleaning will make it look brand new again! A few household products you can probably find right in your kitchen are going to do the trick.

LIQUID DISH DETERGENT

Any liquid dish detergent will clean and bring back the shine of your valuable jewellery. Soak your jewellery in a solution mixed with liquid dish detergent and warm water for about 15 minutes. Then, using a smooth toothbrush scrub each of the pieces thoroughly and rinse in running water, preferably warm. Use a smooth cloth to blot off the water and just leave the pieces on a towel to let them air dry. Do not clean silver jewellery with this detergent.

AMMONIA

Ammonia is a reliable cleaner, but it can be a bit caustic chemically. Avoid using ammonia too often to wash gold jewellery as it may wear out your jewellery. Nevertheless, ammonia is a great candidate for occasional (but not common) and profound cleansing. Also, if you have platinum or pearls in your jewellery, avoid cleaning them with ammonia.

Combine one part of ammonia with 6-7 parts of water and using a spatula, stir the solution to create an even mixture. Soak the jewellery for just a couple of seconds. Remove the pieces with a pair of tongs or a strainer and rinse under running water. Wipe the pieces dry with a smooth polishing cloth and then leave them to air- dry on a towel.

HOW TO STORE GOLD JEWELLERY

The next step in taking adequate care of your gold jewellery after cleaning is to store it properly. The best option is to use a clean, dry and fabric-lined jewellery box. If you do not have a jewellery box, you can use your free phone screen wiping clothes and wrap each piece of your jewellery individually.

Store each of the pieces separately to avoid jewellery from touching and scratching each other.
