GIA CERTIFICATION

GIA CERTIFICATION

GIA (Gemological Institute of America) is a non-profit body that conducts research and educational programs in gemology (the study of artificial and natural gemstone materials) & jewellery arts. It is a California based firm that we can consider as the world's foremost authority in gemology. GIA came into existence in 1931. The institute is popular for establishing the '4Cs', namely, the cut, colour clarity and carat weight that helps evaluate the quality of gemstones.

GIA conducts thorough research on gem identification. The firm also provides diamond grading services. Their gemstone grading system is widely accepted as the worldwide grading standards for diamonds and other gemstones, including coloured stones and pearl. GIA aims to set and maintain the standards used to evaluate gemstone quality.

The certification provided by GIA confirms the quality and authenticity of a gem. GIA evaluates gemstones based on characteristics like the 4cs, weight, shape, measurement etc. Through thorough analysis, they scrutinize whether the gemstones are natural, synthetic or treated.

GIA Certification for Diamonds

Grading of diamonds is one of the important tasks of this institute. For GIA graded diamonds, you will be able to find grading reports. In those reports, a person can see the full quality assessment and the country of origin and a unique number, which is also sometimes inscribed on the diamond's girdle.

GIA provides various types of grading reports for both natural and laboratory-grown diamonds. The more concise and compact version is the Diamond Dossier report that often associates diamonds with less than 1 carats. The firm also offers diamond e-reports, diamond origin reports, and diamond focus reports for different carat weights diamonds.

A good grading report includes all the necessary information to evaluate the gemstone's quality, such as the 4cs, fluorescence, polish & symmetry, diamond plot graph, laser inscription details, any known treatments etc.
