Carat to ratti

Carat to ratti

Carat is a unit of mass, and 1 carat is roughly equal to 200mg. It is used to refer to the measurement of pearls and gemstones. Many a time you must have heard about carats indicating how pure a gemstone is. So 1 carat can also be expressed as 1/5 of a gram. There are many other terms associated with measuring gems in terms of carat like one- hundredth of a carat is also called pointer. It is the internationally acclaimed unit of measuring gems.

Ratti is also a unit to measure the gemstones but not Internationally acclaimed. It is an age- old Indian traditional unit of measurement. Here metric mass units like grams or milligrams are not used as the standard reference instead of the weight of Ratti seeds ( scarlet red coloured seeds in the shape of eggs) used as the standard reference. The key use of Ratti today is in the astrological references to gemstones.

Jewellers mainly use carat as the unit to measure gemstones.
