Padmavati Jewellery

Padmavati is a Hindi movie, was based on a legendary Rajput queen, Padmavati- who committed Jauhar (mass suicide) along with other Rajput ladies when Alauddin Khilji conquered their land in the 12th or 13th century. Along with the storyline, the jewellery used in the movie also became very famous. Padmavati Jewellery is renowned for its dazzling beauty.

Most of the Padmavati Jewellery has a base of gold. The jewellery used by the Rajputs in the movie is designed based on Rajput Kundan Jewellery, which was adorned with many gemstones. They have also used Basra pearls and have created a different style of the Rajasthani Choker and different kinds of earrings, like-motijaal earrings and double jumkhis for Padmavati when she is a queen. Since Padmavati as a princess is from the Sinhala culture, her jewellery is minimalistic but has embellishments of substantial gold workmanship. Pearls, corals and turquoises are also used to bring out the Sinhala culture.

For Ratan Singh, the Rajput King, jewellery with prominent gemstones as the focal point was created. This jewellery was also based on gold and Kundan technique. Alauddin Khilji’s is inspired by the jewellery worn by warriors in Turkey and Afghanistan. And the jewellery worn by Princess Mehrunissa is based on Turkish royal jewellery. While gold was used as the base material for the Rajput Jewellery, silver was used for the Afghani and Turkish Jewellery. They have used sheet work and meenakari work to make some pieces of Padmavati jewellery as well.
