Costume Jewellery

Costume Jewellery

Jewellery has always been very much a part of an individual's fashion statement. Like the dress, makeup or any other element in the entire look, jewellery is also an integral part of the attire.

The patterns, designs and materials used in jewellery have also evolved drastically over the years. Early men used to have primitive sculpted jewellery to enhance their look. Since then the patterns have been changing, one generation after the other.

Costume jewellery refers to pieces that are easy to carry and are lightweight.

Non-precious and semi-precious gems such as rhinestones, cubic zirconias, aquamarines, citrines, peridots, shells etc. are typically used to create costume jewellery. Initially sterling silver was the only metal used; however, nowadays nickel, brass, pewter etc. are all extensively included in the process.

Gold plated necklaces with matching earrings became a raging fad as these downgraded the cost of jewellery substantially and at the same time looked unmistakably like the real keepsake.

Modernization has taken its toll on jewellery; Artisans producing costume jewellery are now more inclined towards plastic, lead, acrylic, and even wood. These create funky ornaments enough to accessorize and yet remain subtle. Beads, shells and crystals add to the glam quotient of costume jewellery as well.

Geometric patterns are seen across different jewellery designs all over the country. Free-flowing beaded necklaces worn in multiple layers also find a significant place in the closet. These are bold, they mark their presence and create a kind of aura that is difficult to miss.
