vydhuryam

vydhuryam

Vydhuryam (vaiduryam) or lehsunia is a gemstone with a vitreous lustre, known by the name 'cat's eye' since its appearance is similar to the eye of a cat. People with astrological beliefs accept that vydhuryam possesses various powers of the planet Ketu (the south lunar node), which is enough to bring multiple benefits to the wearers.

The cat's eye gemstone usually appears in shades of green, yellow, grey or brown. Some of them also appear to be colourless. They are one of the most abundant minerals that we can find on earth. We can usually find these gemstones in India, China, Srilanka and Brazil. Due to an optical effect called chatoyancy, these gemstones exhibit a thin layer of lustrous white light on their surface, reflecting light.

The most popular and valuable cat's eye gemstone is the chrysoberyl cat's eye. All other varieties come under the cat's eye quartz or the cat's eye apatite. We can distinguish these gemstones based on their colour, chatoyancy and shape. They are usually cut into a spherical or oval shape.

Taking care of the cat's eye gemstones is easy. They are durable materials that will last for a very long time if we take proper care in their maintenance process. In case of cleaning these precious gemstones, try to avoid harsh household cleaners and bleach.
