White stone

White stone

White is a colour that goes with any other gemstone, and white gems regardless of whether they are used as pendants or beads, offer the desirable glints and highlights that only white can provide to your general appearance. Since ancient times, white and colourless gemstones have been used and are among the most popular colours in gemstones on the whole. White and transparent gemstones pair well with any outfit, skin tone, metal or occasion, unlike any other coloured gemstone.

Some gemstones that come in white colour are listed below:

Agate: Agate comes in colours ranging from opaque green to greenish-white. It’s typically soft and opaque (the kind of white that looks cloudy).

Coral: The colour of coral ranges from salmon-pink to orange to red. It is rare and precious.

Moonstone: Moonstone is opaque and ranges from beige to pinkish-orange in terms of colour. It is smooth.

Opal: The colour of Opal varies from white with a multicolour appearance in light to a vibrant orange fire colour. All opals appear opaque.

Quartz: Quartz is produced in a myriad of colours and styles. The cost also differs significantly.

Sapphire: Sapphire varies from pale yellow to bright orange to vibrant red in terms of colour. It is valued highly.

Beryllonite: Beryllonite is a rare white gem species. White gemstones can be transparent in clarity, but their refractive index is no higher than quartz. White gemstones, therefore, do not create exquisite gems. These white stones were first found in 1888 in Maine, USA.

Prehnite: Prehnite, usually available in green or yellow, also occurs in White colour. These white gemstones, although sometimes transparent, are mostly translucent in texture. These white gems were the first mineral named after a person; Hendrik Von Prehn, South Africa’s Dutch commander.

Oligoclase: Oligoclase, otherwise known as India sunstone, is mostly available in colours of yellow, red and green, but sometimes emerge as white stones too. These white gems, like orthoclase, moonstone, sunstone and andesine, are feldspar. They range from translucent to opaque in clarity.

White semi-precious stones usually come from India and Sri Lanka; needless to say they are outstanding and therefore costly.

Howlite: Howlite is usually opaque and white with grey or black veins. These white gemstones are rather smooth, but still are useful for jewellery, as white stones can only be discovered in two locations around the globe: Canada and the United States of America.

Danburite: Though Danburite generally occurs in the form of colourless stones, they sometimes appear cloudy enough to seem white. In this sense, these white gemstones are similar to diamonds, although they are not as brilliant as diamonds. These white stones were named after the U.S. town of Danbury, where they were first found in 1839. They were also found in Canada, Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia.
