Modern Jewellery

As the world embraces modernity in everything, designers have also evolved to develop jewellery that suits the needs of the millennium. The concept of modern jewellery arose in the late 19th century when customers started giving more importance to the convenience of the jewellery that they wore. There was hence an understandable shift from being big and showy to becoming sleek and stylish.

Jewellery was used by all genders since the early stone age and has continuously been modified over time to suit the wants of the wearers. Anything from rings, necklaces, bracelets, earrings, chains, brooches and hair accessories seem to have imbibed modern aesthetics into them. While the traditional and expensive jewellery studded with gems and precious metals, the focus is no longer on the size and volume of these accessories; instead, it is the design and beauty that counts.

Jewellery has always had cultural and traditional links to them, some of which are still used by designers to bring about a regal look.

The advent of modern jewellery was easily facilitated by the discovery of new materials like precious metal clay (PMC), polymers like plastics, fibres, et cetera, which could be moulded easily into different shapes and sizes.

It is notable to mention the effect of technological advancements in the field of modern jewellery making. Various dyeing, colouring and 3D modelling methods that hardly require any kind of human intervention have made jewellery making a much less hefty process and also enhanced the precision, which in turn has led to reduced costs.
