Designer jewellery usually refers to a range of jewellery designs that abide by certain set standards of artistry, craftsmanship or techniques. The ornaments and their designs that are part of a collection are personalized by the creator, who determines the type and aesthetics of the jewellery to make a prototype. This model is further, minutely supervised in the production process to mass-produce on a larger scale or to make restricted pieces.

There are several types of designer jewellery, namely high jewellery, custom jewellery, and studio jewellery, amongst a few others. High jewellery is the most expensive category of designer jewellery and is differentiated by exquisite designs and rare materials, which excludes mass production. On the other hand, custom jewellery includes customized sets that are often made as per the needs of the customer. Studio jewellery constitutes handcrafted sets by an individual jeweller or a group of people under a single jeweller in a private workplace.

In the world of jewellery, all adornments known to mankind have got a designer touch. Right from the basic necklaces and bangles to intricately crafted earrings and nose rings, the wave of designer jewellery has even touched significant ornaments like anklets, maang tikkas and kamarbands.
